Ceremonial hat "with four points Its rich... - Lot 95 - Eve
Ceremonial hat "with four points Its rich decoration is organized in two registers. At the bottom, triangular faces in blue and black, separated by a band of red and yellow triangles. Below, on each side, a face separated by two colors, yellow-red or yellow-blue, evokes the principle of duality dear to pre-Columbian thought. These faces can also be interpreted as profiles facing each other and thus play on a double reading. Here, the duality is found in the motifs as well as the colors. The presence of the four points could suggest the four cardinal points. The finesse of execution and the iconographic richness of this headdress make it an exceptional piece of jewelry reserved for the Huari elite. Camelid wool textile, decorated with geometric motifs in blue, green, cream, pink red and black. Huari culture, Peru, 700 - 1000 AD H. 13 - l. 12 cm Condition : Good general condition and conservation of colors. One of the points is missing. Mounted on a modern lining. Provenance: William Siegal Gallery, Santa Fe, NM (US). Private collection, France.
